Laboratory health and safety training
Participants
Personnel entering NTU laboratories and practicum venues, including principal investigators, students, and assistants.

Class content
Classes are divided into four categories – A, B, C, and D. Category A classes are required, while category B, C, and D classes are electives which can be chosen by participants according to their interests or areas of experimentation. Participants are required to select a category A class, which can be taken in combination with classes in other categories, for example in combinations such as A+B, A+B+C, or A+B+C+D.

A – Laboratory health and safety management: General laboratory health and safety rules (two-hour online class) and an overview of first aid and protective measures (one-hour online class). Three class hours followed by a half-hour test.
B – General hazard knowledge: Hazard regulations, chemical hazards, introduction to chemical labelling and safety data sheets, and working with and waste management of toxic chemicals. Three class hours followed by a half-hour test.
C – Radiation protection training: Understanding ionizing radiation, rules for working with ionizing radiation, radiation protection protocols, and radioactive waste management. Three class hours followed by a half-hour test.
D – Biological safety training: Introduction to biological laboratories, overview of biological material hazards, introduction to good microbiological techniques, and biomedical waste management. Eight class hours followed by a half-hour test.
*Please note that all those working or conducting experiments at the NTU College of Medicine must participate in training for new personnel conducted by the College of Medicine and must not register for category A or B classes. Category A classes are conducted online. Links to these classes are sent via email on the day they are scheduled to take place. If you have not received a link by the time your class is scheduled to start, please contact us via phone or email.

Registration
Registration closes two days before classes are scheduled to take place or when classes are full.
NTU personnel:
Registration is free. All registration must go through the laboratory use and management system using your NTU account provided by the Computer and Information Networking Center. NTU personnel who have registered using external email services such as Gmail or Yahoo will not be able to receive links to online classes or related information.
Non-NTU personnel:
1.Apply for a non-NTU personnel account and complete class registration using the laboratory use and management system.
2.Fill out the non-NTU personnel training application form.
3.After receiving an application, the Environmental Health and Safety Center will send payment notification via email. Once payment has been made, a link to the online class will be sent. For in-person classes, please arrive at the class venue at the designated time.
4.Category A, B, C, and E classes are priced at NT$1000 each and category D classes at NT$2000. National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and National Taiwan Normal University personnel as well as non-NTU personnel conducting experiments at NTU are eligible for a 20 percent discount.

Certification
For participants who have achieved the passing grade of 70 percent or above in post-class tests, certificates will be uploaded to the laboratory use and management system within one month of completing the relevant class. If you require physical certification, you may print the certificate provided on the laboratory use and management system.
For participants of category A and B classes conducted by the NTU College of Medicine Environmental Health and Safety Center, a list of all those who have received passing grades in the last three years will be published on the websites of the NTU College of Medicine Environmental Health and Safety Center and the College of Public Health. Certification will not be otherwise provided. If you require a certificate, please download one from either of these websites and take it to the College of Medicine Environmental Health and Safety Center or the College of Public Health Environmental Health and Safety Team for an official stamp.
